REACTIONS:

DAM that's great art

the most interesting painting that is still on my mind is gottfried helnwein's epiphany.
it's stiking how the mother and baby are so beautiful, so sharp in focus, and clearly from a different era than those around her. also just fascinating how much it looks like an actual photograph. even close up, it is so real.

Radar

October 15, 2006

I went to the Denver Art Museum today to see the newly opened expansion and in particular, the Radar collection. Very inspiring work, I have to say they are the most interesting and provocative pieces I've seen on display in Denver, ever. My favorite pieces were the works by Damien Hirst and the "Adoration of the Magi" by Gottfried Helnwein.

Gottfried Helnwein Work at the Denver Art Museum

Friday, July 13, 2007

The Radar exhibit showing Epiphany, the Gottfried Helnwein work, at the Denver Art Museum closes after this weekend. Fortunately, the DAM is free all weekend, so Colorado residents still have a chance to view the amazing piece.

My Trip to the New Art Museum

Thursday, January 25, 2007

I guess art is supposed to challenge you, but is it supposed to creep you completely out? This painting at the Denver Art Museum, Epiphany (Adoration of the Magi) 1996 by Austrian artist, Gottfried Helnwein, was like a bloody car wreck. I was disgusted but I could not look away.

Helnwein, characteristically, presents us with an ambiguous, haunting image and leaves us to wonder about its meaning ... " reads the exhibition catalogue..
