DE YOUNG MUSEUM - IT'S A GOTTFRIED HELNWEIN PAINTINGa visit to de Young Museumde Young Museum (San Francisco) 17. September 2011 |
a blue-gray monochrome painting Sometimes museum gives out free admissions on special events. M.H. de Young Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park has a collection on International Contemporary art. There are two exhibits that caught my attention. The first is Gottfried Helnwein’s Epiphany II. The painting is 210 cm x 310 cm long. Gottfried Helnwein is an Austrian-Irish painter, installation and performance artist.

Anti-Mass
In the same room is Anti-Mass (close-up of charred pieces in the photo above), an installation by Cornelia Parker who is an English sculptor and installation artist. The “Anti-Mass” are charcoal pieces from an African American Baptist Church destroyed by arsonists. The pieces are suspended, seemingly defying gravity.
It is good to visit museums and galleries to get inspired by artists’ work.
@museumnerd: Wow. What exactly am I looking at?
